There is this one white spot that has gotten bigger over the months and now i am worried. It is located on one of the fins. There is only one spot and none of the other fish have it. Could one giant spot be ich, its like a little white spot.
Can this be treated with salt? If not what is it and what is the cure?

if it's one spot and appears to be growing, I wouldn't think it's ich. Ich tends to give the fish a "salted" appearance. I would definitely say it's some sort of fungus/velvet but it's hard to say wthout a pic. I would also go as far to say Salt would help but again, without a pic, I can't be 100% on it.

it's not ich and it's not velvet. it "may" be Lymphocystis or any of a number of other viral diseases, none of which will be benefited by the use of salt.

You should have cichlid rift salt in your tank anyway. While it may not be 100% needed for them to survive, it definately helps bring out their color.... and who knows, adding the salt may help your situation as well.

You should have cichlid rift salt in your tank anyway that's a big leap of faith don'tya think? to begin with, unless i've completely missed something, he hasn't said anything about having "Rift lake" cichlids. Then, what if he has South American cichlids such as Geophagus or Gymnogeophagus species which would absolutely 'hate' having Rift Lake salts in their water.
and finally, telling somone they "should" have Rift Salt in their tank without knowing what kind of fish are in there or his water chemistry, is not very good advice. "IF" he has Malawi cichlids, and "IF" his water is low in gH, kH, and pH ... then adding Rift lake salts is a good idea. If on the other hand, he has Rift Lake cichlids but his water chemistry is hard and alkaline, he needs no Rift Lake salt addition and can save big bucks by not wasting his money on them.

they should really call it something else like a Rift Lake cichlid buffer or something instead of cichlid salt.
back on topic, your fish probably has lymphocistis like the others that you had a thread about a couple of days ago.

I did the salt treatment slowly putting in 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon. How long should i leave the salt in there two weeks, same as with the ich treatment? Would this treatment work at killing the parasite or do i need the chemical additives for the water to get rid of this? The guy at the pet shop advised me not to use any of their meds for parasites etc, because of the fact that they are to strong and will rot out the silicone and my tank would start to leak. He is not just a fill in employee either! He is a fish specialist that is barely ever in and i trust him. Is he right? Second why would he lie about it if he is advising me to not get any of their products, hes obviously not trying to make money off me.
On the other hand there is this place that is called aquarium city that told me to use the the same products the other guy at petco told me not to use and said it was fine. Whos telling the truth.
Also you will be happy to know i am getting another 30gal. So i will have five cihlids in each and i am sure even you would say that is deffinitely not overstocking.

you should really just get a 55 gallon and put them all in there and then sell your existing 29 gallon.
yes, 5 africans that get to around 4 inches is OS in a 29 gallon, but i do not know which species and how big your fish will get.

No that was some other guy. Thsi guy told me off when i told him how many i have. Is it true? Also is 1 teaspoon per gal enough or should i make the solution in the tank stronger. How long should i leave the salt in there/ how long should i treat with salt? I really want this to work. I can't believe i put 30 teaspoons of it in there and they didn't even notice.
