I'm going out of town for 3 or 4 days. Do I need to get those dissolving blocks that feed fish or do you recommend something else? Thanks in advance!
~Courtney
I've never tried those blocks, so I have no opinion on them. I have used automatic feeders and they have worked for me. I bought this one at petsmart it's $24.99.....
Personally, I think you would be ok to leave them, with maybe some algae wafers. I've heard fish do ok up to 2 weeks (not that I'd ever push it that much.) Overfeeding seems to hurt them more than underfeeding.
those feeding 'blocks' are a bad idea. it's essentially a plaster base, impregnated with junk food which will dissolve and pollute your water. fish can manage just fine for several days if you leave do a water change the day before, and feed them the day you leave.
As long as they are healthy fish, they will be fine for 3 to 4 days. I've left my community tanks and bettas in the past for a full week with no food and they were fine when I returned.
as liv2padl the feed blocks are a bad idea. i have heard many people with tank problems after using them. like others have said if your fish are healthy they will be fine. have fun on your trip.
