Okay so I have a 10 gallon tank. I had 2 male Sunset Coral Dwarf Platys, 2 female Sunset Coral Dwarf Platy, 2 Female Sunset Platys, 2 Panda Cory's, and 1 Julii Cory. I have some Frill Plants, and some other plants that grow from those bulbs you buy at Wal-mart. The Julii Cory died about a week ago because of Velvet. I treated the tank with CopperSafe for a week and just did a water change to remove the medication. The one male Dwarf Platy died two days ago with no distinct sign of any disease. This morning I woke up to find that my platys were freaking out. They were shimmeying. I did a 50% water change. They seemed okay the rest of the day. They ate there dinner around 5 this evening and by the time i came up at 6:30 they were all shimmeying again and 1 female dwarf platy was dead. I immediatly removed them from the tank and put them in cups because I don't have a hospital tank. The other 3 females died shortly after. The male died after that. They went from being all happy and eating to dieing in a matter of an hour and a half. What do you possibly think could have gone wrong?

The Frill plant was the newest addition to the aquarium could that have brought in disease? It did have a snail on it but I removed the snail. I'm taking the water for an extensive water test tomorrow.

how old is the tank? what are the water parameters?what is your filtration?
temp of the tank water?
it is not likely the plants brought anything in the tank..not impossible but not likely.

has the tanks finished cycling?

Putting them in cups may not be a good idea. Once they are out of thier tank, they no longer have access to filteration which means no oxygen and then death is emminent. Sorry.

I have heard that some medications interfere with the biological filter, try testing your water. You could have also had an ammonia or nitrite spike. It could have also been a sudden increase or decrease in ph. I would recommend testing your water, and telling us your results.Test for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and ph if you can.

yep, please give us your water params.

Okay so I have a 10 gallon tank that has been running for a month now and I have 5 platys and 2 Panda Cory's in it. The ammonia level had been high since I set the tank up but about 2 days ago API Ammonia Test Kit I bought gave me a 0 ppm result. I also used the API 5 in 1 test strips and that tells me that my Nitrite and Nitrate levels are extreamly high. How is that possible? I thought that Nitrite and Nitrate are linked directly with Ammonia.

well judging from your other post, It was probably due to an uncycled tank, without adequate water changes.

Update: Water Parameters

I did plenty of water changes. The pH is 7.0, the Ammonia is 0ppm, Nitrates is at 40ppm, Nitrites 10ppm, GH 60ppm, KH 120ppm. My temp is at 76 degrees. I did two water changes today.

well that explains it. you nitrates are too high, and you should have 0 PPM nitrites. is your tank cycled? how often do you do PWCs?

There is your problem. Do a huge water change and check again. Then change water again immediatly if needed to get nitrites below .25 ppm. I looked through your other threads. Once a month water changes is not enough, especially for a tank as overstocked as yours. You should be doing 50% weekly water changes with that bio-load.
