I know how to do Co2 but I got a new tank setup and a new filter. I want to diffuse the Co2 through my filter, but the filter doesn't reach the waterline. Does it have to reach the waterline for the Co2 to get into the tank? I know there are other ways of diffusing it, but I'm just wondering if I can still add Co2 even though the filter doesn't reach the waterline.

I am sure you can do it, but I think you would be losing more CO2 than you would gain because of the agitation of the surface of the water. Can you keep the water level of your tank high enough to at least minimize the splashing?

I have an aquaclear filter theres not much splashing its a steady stream but I would have to top off the water to almost reach the lights, and even a small bump, water changes, new plants, would make it overflow.

You can attach a sheet of plastic so that the outflow of your filter extends further from the tank rim to reduce splashing, sort of like a ramp/waterway.

does it really matter though will the co2 still get into the water?

CO2 will diffuser into the water.
The surface aggitation might degas the CO2 that got dissolve.
The process of injecting CO2 then is not as effective.
The other alternative if you have a smaller tank (20 gallons or less) is to use Seachem Excel. Purchase a 2 liter bottle that should last you for a few (3+)months.
