Hi all,

I'm wondering if it'd be ok to put a hermit crab from the local tide pools into my marine tank?

I think not, and there are several reasons why:
-may be illegal
-may be parasites/diseases
-may be different temperatures that are too much of a gap (pacific temp at 50 degrees vs my tanks at 78 degrees) that acclimation cannot solve
-may be unethical

What do you think? Do you think that, in the name of scientific experimentation, this would be possible?

i would not do it for the exact reasons you mentioned. i came here to suggest some but it appears you have already found them. many tidal pool creatures can usualy adapt very very well to salinity or temp changes form being in tidal pools all day, but 28-30 degrees seems like a bit much

Give it a shot and see what happens, im sure these guys are pretty hardy. So provided you dont get into trouble from any authorities then go for it.

Let me know what you decide to do
