Well, the male betta in my 29g is apparently being picked on by my neons; which thus means I need to move him. But is there another centrepiece fish that I could put in to replace him? It needs to be mid to top dweller as I have 2 Bolivian rams.

I'm thinking maybe a gourami, but my preference is a top dwelling cichlid of some sort.

Cheers.

Cos its a good size tank i would say an Opaline Gourami could be considered. sure they are bigger but they are nice and colourful and i believe could fit in a 29 gallon tank if its just with neons.

an opaline gourami will kill the neons, and probably the rams. IME, they harass every fish in the tank that is smaller than they are until the fish dies.

I should've mentioned that I have a yellow d.gourami allready, so something a little different would be nice.
Thanks for the quick responses everyone!

Would a Pearl Gourami work? I personally really like them... However, if that doesn't work or if you don't like that idea, a Boesmani's Rainbowfish could maybe work. I know they're schooling fish normally, but I'm sure you could keep one in there. Just my idea because I like that fish. However, I would check with someone else because I am not 100% positive about this recommendation.

Rainbows are actually one of my favorite fish, so if one or two of them would work I'd be stoked. As far as gouramis go, I really like pearls so that would be nice too. Evan, I like your ideas!

Bosamoni rainbows are beautiful and I think would make a nice addition to your tank. I would get two so they can hang out togather. I have some in my 125 and they stay mid to upper levels of the tank.
