Here's what I have to work with:

55g hex
fluval 305 filter (which gives off a steady "current" of water)
bubble wands
fake plants and 1 real plant
sand substrate
high PH out of the tap 8.0

Because of the shape of the tank, and the PH level, I am having a difficult time deciding on the right fish for me.
Right now I have 5 zebra danio.
Can anyone please give me some suggestions. Every time I think I've found a fish I like, the PH tolerance nixes it!

Thank you.

along with 3 more zebras, you could get a school of 12 black skirts, and then a group of 8 corydoras.

the pH tolerance doesnt really mean much unless you are planning to breed them. most fish can adapt to almost any pH. a stable pH is better than one that fluctuates.

I wouldn't worry about the pH. Your fish will adjust in most all cases.

I keep angels but I'm not a big fan of hex tanks. the footprint in a hex is small compared to rectangle tank with the same capacity. because of that, It is difficult to determine how many angels to keep..the general 10 gal per fish goes out the window.
the preference for a tall tank is largely due to the finnage of angels. but they also use a large tank for it's swimming room.
mine have no problem covering a 48" tank in the blink of an eye. angels are not the slow lethargic swimmer many may believe.

but you may be fine with a pair .

hex tanks arent the best for angels, and the zebras might be a little to hyperactive for them.

I had some zebra danios with mine..they never seemed to bother the angels..one morning tho..I had no zebra danios.

Ok. No angels. I'm really at a loss as to what fish would do best, with the hex and ph level. I really wanted at least one larger type fish, not just schools of little ones. Maybe that's just not possible with this tank??
