View Full Version : White gravel causes cloudy-looking water?

I just changed most of the gravel in my tank because I had black gravel and those huge pebbles, and it was an eyesore to me.
I have white pebbles now, and the water seems to be cloudy..
Is it because the light reflects off of the gravel and gets caught in the tiny air bubbles making it look cloudy?
I rinsed the rocks before-hand and everything.
Any input?

I have white gravel with some plack mixed in to break it up. The cloudiness should go away. Probably just something left over from rinsing.

you washed it until it washed clear in the bucket, right?

yes i put it in a bucket, hosed water in, mixed the rocks and water throuroghly with my hand, emptied the bucket, and did that 3 times
you could see the leftover water under the rocks when you tipped the bucket almost all the way, and the water looked fine
edit: even if there was some powder left, it's not harmful is it?
the fish are just hanging around doing the usual.. they seem unaffected.. so far..

even so I think it's just dust from the gravel. I had to rinse mine about 8 times before it came through clear.
should clear up eventually.

It is just from the gravel because it is white and it is new. I had white gravel at one time and it gave me cloudy water for a while and every time I did a water change it was cloudy for a few hours. Eventually it went away.
