We hear so many horror stories pertaining to big chain pet stores and lfs. I thought I would share with you folks an exception to the rule.
Last week I was shopping at my local Petco (Opelika, AL) picking up sons new betta. Of course we took a stroll thru their livestock area and checked out each individual tank. Now for the shocking part, the tanks were immaculate!!! :) All the fish were happy, swimming, schooling, and just looked great. The cichlids were begging for food, the tetras schooling about like they should, and not a single dead or half eaten fish to be seen, and NO ICK !!! It was the complete opposite of the 15 surrounding Walmart stores, or the Petsmart store in Columbus, GA. We enjoyed seeing the quality fish especially the two tanks full of baby blood parrots !!! My favorite and Undyed of course!!!
Now for the sad part, when we got to the end of the tank display we noticed one blue dwarf gourami that was laying on gravel gasping and looking near death. My 5 year old son got very upset and burst into tears, he said daddy I dont want the fish to die. Seeing how upset he was, I decided to grab one of the employees and tell them the situation. When I did he basically lept into action, went into back grabbed a container for the sick fish, got my son involved by letting him hold the container, while he netted the gourami. He then told my son he would take the fish to the fish doctor so he could get better. This made my son feel much better, and proved that their are people who care and have enough responsiblity to do their job properly. So good job to Petco and good job to the employee who helped me out. :)
