I would like to breed my blue gouramis as the male started building buble nest in the community tank. Right now I just moved the female to a 30gal tank long with heater and some plants (no filter as i don't have a sponge filter). Planning to add the male tomorrow. I also got the half styrofoam cup installed.
Am I doing it right? What other things do I need to do to ensure successful breeding?
Thanks very much

I would recommend getting a sponge filter. Although depending on how long it takes your gourami to get into action it may not matter - it would worry me to death.

Make sure the female has plenty of places to hide, as the male will chase her all over if she bothers him before he's done building his nest.

You will probably want to remove the female as soon as they're done, so the male won't beat her up. Be careful not to disturb the nest though - that could be tricky. Perhaps have a divider handy, so you can simply seperate them without having to chase the girl around.

I can't tell you much else, as my gouramis have only made attempts in the community tank and I don't have room right now to set up a special tank for them. They're quite interesting to watch, I actually witnessed the release of eggs and it was an amazing dance. Unfortunately for me, the eggs attracted the other fish, who'd otherwise been leaving that corner alone and the nest was destroyed.

Now this isnt an answer to your question, infact another one but I dont feel it needs a new thread.

Can you breed a blue gourami and a 'red' gourami *I am not sure what the original name was, i believe it was the paradise gourami??* But they both have the same features? I guess its possible. Im not sure. My dad believes that they are male and female because they have been quite friendly with each other....

i think you should ask your self a few ?'s before you even think about trying to breed these fish or any other fish. do you have the room for the fry? someone i am sure will correct me but i think they lay hundreds of eggs at a time. do you know how to hatch bbs? do you have bigger grow out takes as the fry grow? what will you do with them after they grow?

ok, I'm using the 40 gal tank for breeding now, after the fry spawn (supposely), the tank is gonna be used for the frys, and the parents will be back in the community tank. I'm culturing Infurosia now.
PS: how long does it usually take for them to release the eggs? it's been 4 days now with bubble nest but no eggs yet

I would really appreciate if I get a direct answer to my question, if you don't want to answer, please feel free not to post a reply. Thank you very much, as I don't need some one to educate me on what I plan to do with the fish.

For what it worth, if you not willing to listen to other people when they have experience with this matter then I dont know what tell you. Gourami have literally thousand young, same size as betta young, they need specialize food, specilize care, if you not willing to invest in their need then there's no point on wasting the effort to breed them. there topic around here somewhere on betta breeding Journal. I would suggest you read it and then consider if you want trouble of all that mess.
