ok some questions on cycling here. the info im using was also posted in this thread http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88796&highlight=fishless+cycle+cycling+read"

1) whats a good way to measure ppm? and best way to "do" it (like dropper?)
2) are there any good tips anyone can give me
3) how often should i check my parameters? once a day?

i know keep the water level low for my 3 HOB filters, turn my air pump on...heater up...um and lights off.

and also
4) 125g is a big tank, when i do water changes, im going to use my hose from outside through my window. if i turn it on a slow flow and put it right by the heater, would this work? and do i add conditioner again?

get a good test kit (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Master FW Kit ~$14 online) - check ammonia every other day 'till your initial dose drops off a bit. Add a little more ammonia every other day & test 24hrs later. Once ammonia is being consumed, start testing for nitrite. the day after you've dosed ammonia and see no nitrite, test again for ammonia & nitrates. If ammonia=0, nitrates should be pretty high... change pretty much all of the water, don't disturb filters or gravel. Add fish.

thanks for the info man.

:help:

i need to figure out a good way to do ppm

BRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, got your attention, LOL. The very BEST thing to use for water changes with a tank that size is a Python gravel vac. It's like the smaller versions except you hook it up (comes with) to a faucet; turn water on and you're in business. 25 or 50 foot tubes, moves large amounts, and not only drains tank water into sink, but also you refill, just pushing in the "thingy" at the bottom of sink attachment!!!! I love mine, don't have to haul tons of buckets (I don't have a tap outside). Available at WalMart and PetSmart--I believe PS took theirs off the internet site as they were losing 30.00 a pop when someone printed it off for discount!! Still well worth the money, and if you break a part (like I did!!) you can get a new one for small price.

^^ thanks for that, it sounds nice. how do you "hook it up to sinks"? because i dont think sinks are a one size fits all. i might just have to do the hose idea...

i also have all the test kits and chemicals i need so im good in that department. i think ppm is 3 drops per gallon. ouch 360 drops of amonia....thats gonna take a while to measure out :P anyone have a way to do larger amounts?

thanks everyone.
