Depends on the barbs. I have 6 and they pay attention only to themselves. They are notorious nippers though. I think I got a mellow batch because mine dont bother any of the other fish. In fact I often see them schooling with my clown loaches. They can (and most likely will) be agressive, or at least very nippy toward other fish.
They will most likely nip at the feelers?/thin strand-like appendages on the gourami. Sorry for the bumbling, but I don't know what they are called. You know what I mean though...
hi all I ma new to this site so I am a lil lost just wanted to post that the tiger barbs I have are really aggressive and have nipped the other fishes fins off
Tiger barbs are iffy. They can go either way. However it has been my experience that this kind of fish does best in a species only tank where they cannot harrass any other fish other then more tiger barbs. They are notorious for fin nipping and literally harrassing other fish to death.

I have my tigers in with a Redtail shark and they work pretty well together... If anything the shark ends up chasing them around.
From my experience, tigers would be fine with one of the more aggressive gouramis such as the blue, opaline or gold as they themselves can be labeled one the "meaner" or more aggressive fish in a community (especially as they get older).
A dwarf or honey gourami would definately get worked pretty well by the tigers though.
Tiger barbs can indeed be very aggressive at times but I disagree with them needing to be in a species-specific tank. All you need to do is keep them in decent numbers and place them with other species that will either not let the tigers push them around, or are simply not interesting or fun for them to chase.

My friend used to have 2 tiger barbs and a betta in the same tank together and they got along. But that is a RARE case...
It might work if you get them in large schools. Then they are less nippy. It really depends. If I were you, I'd just try... I'm trying angelfish and bettas tomorrow...
