Wiring up a DIY hood.

Heres what i got.

A dual fluorescent lamp. It came pre wired with housings and everything. Onlything that wasnt wired is.

1. Green, black, white wire.

I guess the black and white goes into the outlet. But what about the green? It says its a ground, but aint thats the first time i seen a ground wire other then black. I mostly work on cars so yeah...=p

So wireing up the black and whites only will make them both light up. But heres where it gets confusing.

I want to wire up a switch to each bulb, so i can have one on at a time, or both on. So, all togeather is two switches.

Now...what wire do i splice into to be able to do this?

Heres a diagram for everyone to get on the same page. Its a diagram i copyed off the sticker on the ballast. Hope it helps and makes my life easyer.

Thanks

P.S. Do i need a starter, since im using two switch style switches? Unlike the push button type.

Black is hot, white is neutral, green is ground. What type of ballast is it?

I've been told that you can't put a switch after the ballast. So to turn them on separately you would need 2 separate ballasts. Unless there is another way that I don't know about. But I think you'd have to put the switch on the black wire leading into the ballast.

The green should go to the center prong on a 3-prong plug.

From the wiring it looks like an electronic ballast. You shouldn't need a starter on a 2-lamp ballast. Switching the lamps separately will involve modifying the factory wiring inside the fixture. This will void any warranty. If you're still determined to do so, get all the info from the ballast; mfg., model#, etc.
