Alright, here is a rant/question.

One of those walmart rants...

I was at walmart today and was just lookin at there fish and say a hand writtin sign that said "puffers sku...blah blah" so i was like, "puffer! where! where!" So i foudn them and feell in love with them, my heart sunk. One of them came up to the glass and just stared at me.

Well, they decided that red tailed sharks would make great tank mates for puffers  so what do i see in the bcak of the tank, 3 sharks ripping a dead puffer to shreads i was like OMG!@.

So now, i have decided, i am going to turn my 10G tank into a puffer tank.

Do they need brakish water or is fresh water ok? is a 10G even enough?

Thanks :)

What kind of puffer was it? Some puffers are freshwater, some brackish, and some marine.

Can you describe it at all?

If I recall, I've seen people post about Green Spotted Puffers and Figure 8 Puffers being found at Wal-Mart. Do a search and see if you can ID them. Either of those would need more than a 10 gallon tank.

IMO a figure 8 puffer would do fine in a 10G if it's all by itself, but a GSP will need 20G minimum all by itself. chances are the puffers at wla-mart were GSPs. both are BW BTW.

why not make your 55G into a puffer tank?

that looks like a DP to me.

you can get more than puffers. there are TONS of awesome BW fish you can do with the puffer.

I love puffers, you won't be disappointed if you get one.

As much as i would love to have the DP's in my 55g. it would limit me away from not getting a big school of tetras and the fish i have watned for a LONG time which is a pair of blue rams.

The 55g is gonna be a tank with mainly schools.

Dwarf Puffers are strictly fresh water, but I have never sceen them at wallmart.

Hmm, acording to many websites and a couple posts above it seems that they are also brackish water

DP's are NOT BW fish. Many people assume that because they are puffers that they are BW, but this is not true. DP's are found only in FW in their native environment, and people who have put DP's in BW have not had any kind of success, they usually last a month in BW, if that.

Make sure it is a DP before you do too much. How big is it? Can you get a pic?

If not, look here and try to find it.
