Here are my results. I think they are pretty good.

pH: 7.2

high pH: 7.8

nitrite: 0

nitrate: 40-60(couldnt tell the difference from the color card)

ammonia: 0

so how does it look?

You need to do a water change. Keep NitrAte below .40 ppm. If you don't vaccum your gravel, when you water change you should start vaccuming it. make sure you match the temperature of the tank water when adding water and don't foget to dechlorinate it, I use Prime.

you don't need to use the high pH test unless you have african cichlids or you get a very high reading on the normal test.

do a WC, you must reduce you nitrates.

well I did a water change right before I tested it. I will do another water change next week. I vacuum and dechlor it too.

You might want to test your tap for nitrates as well. Could explain the high reading in your tank. If your tap nitrates are low, Im with the others, you need to do another water change to get your nitrates below fourty, and then change water how ever often is necessary to keep them below fourty..

alright. I think it was closer to 40 but those stupd cards are so hard to read and I am partly color blind(so it seems cause I see colors differently than others) Do I get those down by just doing water changes? Will it hurt the fish to do a water change two days in a row?

I have live plants too. Could this be doing something to the nitrates?

Yeah, water changes, as well as vacuming the gravel is the only way to get rid of nitrates. Test your tap water, you may have a lot of nitrates in that causing you to have high nitrates in your tank. In a situation such as that, theres not much you can do other than using bottled or reverse osmosis water.

Nah..water changes two days in a row won't hurt your fish..

As far as the plants, they use nitrates as fertilizer, having live plants should make your nitrates go down unless they are dying.

yes, it should be eating them.
