Anyone use the grapevine found in the reptile section of th petstore for their aquarium. It says it's been heat treated and sandblasted...Think it would be safe??

A bad effect. Grapevine looks awesome at first, but since its very soft wood it'll rot and turn mushy in a couple days. Better off finding some type of hardwood. Xielos

I used some grape driftwood that I purchased from pet smart and let it soak for a few days. It said, however, that it was for reptile tanks and not fish aquariums, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Within hours my tank grew incredibly milky. It looked like steam inside the water. I took the wood out and threw it away. It was the Mac's grape driftwood for reptiles.

Grapevine should not be used in aquariums. It cannot handle the excessive water and will cause problems down the road. It rots and grows mold, algea, and generally looks like crap after a while. It should only be used in reptile habitats.
Stick to driftwood only in an aquarium.

One of my LFS carries grapevine (not a petstore that carries reptile products). I have some in my tanks. It does ok with plecos and snails to eat at the softest parts. It also looks really cool. However, unlike hard woods, when you soak it to sink it - it grows this icky white slime and has a rotted smell. Again, with plecos and snails, it gets better. Probably easiest to avoid using it though.
