Hello everyone!
Hope everyone is having a great holiday season. The boys (and mom and dad) are the proud new owners of a new 28 gallon bowfront. We've started to cycle the tank (fishless), and have it planted with a variety of live plants from our new local store. We also have a piece of driftwood transplanted from their tanks, so there should be a lot of good bacteria on it to help the cycle. Our thoughts now turn to what to stock. Having done a little research and way too much reading, we've decided to start with the hardier fish, electing first to stock 5-6 danios once we get the tank levels right. From there, we would like to add some cories, and once the tank is fully established, some tetras or raspboras. I'd like to add one or two "showcase" fish. My youngest son likes swordtails (I know, not very showcase, but it's his fish of choice), while my eldest boy is looking at the dwarf gouramis. And dad (that's me!) is intrigued by the little Indian Dwarf Puffer. My question has two parts, 1.) Can/will a showcase fish be OK as a loner, and 2.) Is the Indian Dwarf Puffer compatible with the passive fish we plan to stock in the tank? I'm trying to be conscious of bio-load and schooling/habitat concerns of all the fish we plan top select, but being new, I'd rather come to a broader source of knowledge for input. The last thing I want is to set a fish up for an unhappy or unhealthy life. These are planned as pets, just like our dogs and cats, so we want the best possible situation for any fish we bring in. Any input on my stocking will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean
Happy New Year!
