:look:
I recently purchased a 75 gallon tank. Am settig it up to showcase Severums and add various other things etc. I am needing filtration advise.
1. Emperor 400 or Aquaclear? and WHY??
Also if I use to HOB filters can I simply not use the biggest one but use 2 smaller versions and get clear water since together they will empty the tank above what is required??
How bout using a canister and HOB?? HELP!!!!!! :-)

Heard nothing bu great things about the AquaClears.

That said, two would be the ideal set up.

1. You can tune the level of filtration and have current cover most of your tank.
2. You will always have an established filter in case you have to replace the other or if one breaks down for a short period. Makes maintenance easier.

Get one Emperor 400 and one Rena Filstar XP3 canister filter. I'm getting two XP3s for my 90 gallon. I already have one and I think it's great. You can hold lots of media inside them. I like Emperors over AquaClears because they have bio wheels.

I like the emperors, but they can be picky about water depth, they don't like to prime unless the tank is completely full. I've also heard nothing but good about aquaclears. Two is better than one for many reasons. If one fails, you have a backup. It also helps to even out water flow across the whole tank, eliminating dead spots. Whether you do two HOBs, or a HOB and a canister, is pretty irrelevant, thats pretty much just personal preference.

Also if you only have water movement at the top you'll want a small submersible pump or two to keep the poop from settling so much to the bottom.

That one is the one my pet store friend suggested as the best to me.

Hello Everyone

I am a newbie with a 29g with 2 danios, 2 mickey mouse platies and 2 angel fish. I also have a 55g with 2 balas, 2 irr., 1 blue gourami, 1 boseami rainbow fish, 2 red rainbow fish, 1 sharktale, and 1 clown loach.
Naturally I am having ph and cycling issues. I have lost many fish in the process. I am presently using ammo lock and cycle.
Does anybody any experience with ammonia detoxifiers and the nitrogen cycle.

My Jedi senses are anticipating the oncomming slam saying that most of those fish are in way to small of aquariums and need more of the same to school with. Better duck quick! lol

But FYI, its better to start a new thread unless your replying to the original post, else its considered 'hijacking' the thread.
