I havent ran a freshwater tank for over 15yrs now and have only had saltwater for the last 3yrs. My question is, I just set up a 2.5gallon tank in my daughters bedroom and presently there are 5 Rumey-nosed Tetras in there. They really dont take up as much space as I thought they would and I was wondering what medium sized fish would do well in a smaller tank like this along with the Tetras I already have. Thanks for all replies!

Hi and welcome to AC!

Unfortunately, you'll find that the Rummies are already way overstocked in that tank and nothing else can be added while the Rummies need to be removed. (They shouldn't be kept in small groups, so you can't just remove three or four and be in a good place.)

If you're tank is not cycled It is necessary to cycle before worrying about anything else, The fish is there now may not survive let alone more fish. If you don't have a test kit get one. You need to keep the Ammonia and NitrIte under .25ppm.by doing water changes. Make sure the water is Dechlorinated and is the same temperature as the water in the aquarium. I would'nt recommend any more fish, it is overstocked now. Add maybe a adf (african dwarf frog) or a shrimp, but not until the tank is cycled.
