So I was looking at one of my many 10 gallons and discovered a lovely surprise. I have some form of moss! I'm clueless as to how it got in there since I haven't added anything in months. I am a very happy chappy.
well, most likely you picked up some spores when you added fish and/or new plants to your tank, either that or some got into a bag when you were purchasing aquatic life for your tank from a tank full of moss without the dealer noticing and grew under your nose until it was large enough to be noticable.
Same thing happened to me a while ago. I think it was hair algae though, like the kind they use for algae balls. Now that my plants are taking off it is slowly dissapearing though.

Er, there's no type of hair algae that's used for algae balls.
You might be thinking of the Cladophora used in Marimo/algae balls...that's NOT the same type of Cladophora algae sp. "haystack" as some call it.
The former is nice and grows into a nice ball. The latter grows wild in a tank that's not balanced and is a royal PITA to get rid of. Ugh. I hate that stuff.
But to the OP: Take a picture of it and let's see what it is. I have a feeling it might be Cladophora since that's what I thought I had when it first crept into my tanks.
could be like duckweed and java moss. you think everything is out of the tank come to find out later it has grown back. one little piece of java moss is all that is needed next thing you know a big thing of it in your tank.
