i am leaving the lights off on my tank to try and help reduce algae. how long do you think it should take for green, purple and red algae to die if i only turn the lights on for a few minutes so the fish can see the food?
thank you

I think it takes a couple weeks to kill the algae and I don't think you have to leave the lights off all the time, just reduce to 8 hours/day. If you have live rock don't you want to keep the purple algae?

Also recommend, if you don't have already, gettings some algae eating snails or other critters.
