I have just set up a new 40 gallon tank tonight (gravel, rocks, driftwood) are added. I finished filling up the water about 2 hours ago and while I was looking at the tank up close I noticed these thread-like worms that look like they are wiggling around in the water. They are only about a quarter of an inch long, maybe a little more or less, and extremely thin. I was wondering if anybody has any information on what this might be and if they are harmful to the tank.

There are no fish in the tank and I do not have a test kit but I will be getting one tomorrow since mine mysteriously vanished during my last water change of my 5g tank.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm glad it's not something that I need to worry about.

I have them too. I'm trying to get rid of them. I didn't have them until I started buying live plants. You should see my clown loaches did through the gravel for them. Their entire heads go under the gravel.
