In need of Change

I'm getting tired of my tank set up and want more variety so I came to the internet and found this site. So this is my first post, hope this attachment stuff works.
The stuff I have now grows like weeds and wouldn’t mind some slower growing stuff. My current setup is a 55 gal with a shop light on top(2 – 40 watt bulbs) and home made substrate underneath(sand, cat litter and compost)
Any suggestions?

You are right, its simple and easy. The problem, I've had a bass and same plants since 2002, guess I've been looking at this for way too long. Anyone in the Houston area interested in a large mouth bass?
