I will post this in fresh as well, as I don't know where/tho whom to ask this question.....

We have a saltwater aquarium that is not doing well. Basically, we have live rock (and sand), and one mushroom coral with lots of crabs, snails, and bristleworms. We have tried introducing fish--and used to have more mushrooms.

Even with no fish, we cannot keep the levels correct. We purchase water from a saltwater pet store twice a week, and have a huge algae problem.....

All that said, after 3 years of trying with this, we don't want to continue with salt.

Can we convert this back to fresh? If we drain, clean, and start over, can we use the same aquairum & pumps, or do the minerals form the saltwater get into the pores of the aquarium & equipment, so that we will have to start over?

Sorry to hear about your problems with trying to get a saltwater tank running..First off, there would be no problem with cleaning tank and eqiptment to go back to fresh, the only thing i would do is replace and filter media..

Its a shame you cannot saort out your saltwater problems..Are you sure none of us on here are able to help if you describe in detail the problems your having etc etc?? Its just that i dont want to see someone leave the saltwater community..

many people here can help you to get your salt water tank streight, but you have to tell us what the levels are and what you have been doing with your tank, to track the problem. it's not difficult to take care of the salt water tank with what you have in it. but if you made up your mind, that's o.k. too.
