I am setting up a 10 gallon and looking for algea eaters. I already plan on getting some ottos and was thinking about some shrimp. (I would love to put in SAEs but had a hard enough time finding the ones that I already have, and those are way to huge for a 10.) I found some "algea eating shrimp" at my LFS for $2 a piece. I am thinking of picking some up. I have never had these little guys before though. Can anyone give me any more info on them? Are they hardy? Worth the $2? How many would I need for a 10 gallon?

BTW: I have had BBA in the past. Will they eat that type of algae?

THANKS!

very little info

I can offer very little experience but since nobody else has chimed in...

I put 6 Amano shrimp in my 75 gallon and after the first day rarely see one. They came small - about an inch long - and after exploring the tank have kept out of sight . I cannot tell you how effective they are, but if I were doing it again, I would get maybe 15 or 20 for my tank. So at least 3 or 4 for yours?

Since lots of shrimp eat algae, if you watn a spefic anwer you will need to tell us what kind of shrimp you have. See http://www.shrimpcrabsandcrayfish.co.uk/Shrimp.htm?Shrimpfr.htm~mainFrame
