Last Thursday evening I bought a Coral Beauty Angel, put him in the tank. At first he became stressed out and hid behind the filter discharge for the rest of that night, normal acclimation shock. The next day he started coming out into the open more, and by the end of that day he seemed much more comfortable w/ his environment. :) He has basically made a large pile of rocks in the aquarium his area of refuse, but will come out and swim all over the tank, and is seemingly pretty happy.

So far, he has eaten about 1/2 of the marine (hair) algae that is growing in the tank, so he is definitely not starving. However, I can't get him to eat anything else. I've tried:

1. brine shrimp (the clown's food)
2. tetra marine flakes
3. formula one frozen
4. romaine lettuce on a veggie clip
5. dried sea greens on a veggie clip

Is it normal for this fish to primarily diet on microalgae, or is there a problem here? Any suggestions on what to try? or should i keep the veggie clip in there and let him figure it out for himself?

Thanks in advance,

-Brian

Also, he seems like a very healthy specimen (i wouldn't have bought him otherwise), here's a pic of him:

abosolutley beautiful... dont worry hes just eating what he can find in the tank as he does not know how your feeding habits are.. continue to feed your fishes as normal (portion, frequency) and once you see him come up to eat with the group then add a little more to acomidate him

Alright. Would it even take him a little while to discover whats on the veggie clip?

if its in here regularly then he should explore and learn sooner.. other wise you would sit at the other end of the spectrum

So leave it in then.

I guess i am just more nervous w/ a $30 fish, having owned only freshwater in the past, and paying no more than $5/fish.

Thanks for your help.

i have had yellow Tangs act just like that before when i was first starting out and after a while the tangs started to come around to eat the algae on the lettuce clips. I think that what it is, is that they dont know what the clips are so it startles them. but yeah your coral beauty is a beautiful looking fish.

Just to let everyone know, he's eating better now. He'll eat algae, dried seaweed (after its been in the tank for a few hours and hydrated), and the brine shrimp.

mine went after the "Marine 1" pellet and ghost shrimp, as well as the algae
