I just started cycling 75 gallon tank today, using 4 giant danios. I bought a WHisper 100 air pump and this thing is louddddddd! I have read reviews saying they are quiet, but this one aint. I am wondering do I really need it??
I am using 2 Aquaclear 70 filters and I have a quite a bit of surface agitation already!!!!!

Mg is right.
They claim to be quiet, but it's relative...to airplanes flying overhead I think

Gamer and Bviking--thanks

Thanks for the input, I thought maybe I would not need it once i saw thwe agitation of the filters to the water surface.

BViking, u r correct, this thing is loud even if i wrap it in a few towels.

i agree unless u really enjoy the bubble factor i would ixnay the air pump ur HOB filters provide enough surface agitation for good oxygenation.

My fish love their bubbles. They play in them all the time.

I am a fan of a bubble wall in the back of the tank - just makes it look more peaceful to me and the fish love to swim through the bubbles.

There are some newer air pumps that are very quiet - also make sure it does not vibrate on the surface it sits on - if you have a closed cabinet that helps more - i have actually insulated the inside of my cabinet so i dont hear the air pump or canister when i am watching TV.

its more of a preference now. your two HOB's will provide the necessary surface agitation already. if you like the bubbles from airstones and what not, get airpumps. if not, then just don't buy them, you'll save money on stuff you won't want/need. i have two airpumps and i don't use them anymore. Tetra whisper air pumps are pretty quiet.

Some species of fishes like the extra oxygen that air pumps make..I know some of my fishes in the past benifited from the extra oxygen..

The pinktail chalceus, lives in oxygen rich water in the wild..They prefer a lot of oxygen to stay alive in an aquarium..

if you want a quiet air pump, put it in a thick wooden box.
