After some research I have found that I would like to do a South American Cichlid Tank. I plan on setting up a clearwater type tank. I will be using a 55G tank with a brown gravel substrate. I really like blue rams. Hopefully I can find some in my area. I need suggestions on what to put in my tank. If I go with the rams I know I can't get big guys, so I need some ideas on other fish with the rams. If I do not get the rams I need an idea of some of the larger guys I can put in there. I have done research, but there are TONS of fish out there, and more information than I can really go through to get a better idea of what I can work with. I like the look of the ram. The way that they have the "electric" scales is something I would like to find in whatever fish I go with, similar to the JD, Oscars, and such.

Also, are there any sites out there to give ideas on cave making? What sorts of stone to use, how big to make the caves, etc.? Your input is appreciated.

Funds are limited. I can't pay out the $50.00 per discus right now. Angels are an option for sure. Also looking at a firemouth and a convict.

i'd do 4 rams and a pair of angels personally.

look to discus breeders for discus..you can find them and they won't run $50 ea. you can find discus from breeders for 4-$50 tho discus should be kept in groups. 4 is the recommended minimum.

rams like warmer water and either discus or angels will work with them.

you could go with 3-4 rams(if they pair up you may need to do some adjusting) 2-3 angels(also watch for pairing) .

some hatchets(if the top is secure and openings are covered.) or some large SA tetras.

Dont go with the Cons, or Fire mouth they will kick the you know what out of your rams... and you will then limit future addition...
