An alternative food for discus besides the pricey bloodworms??

I just spent 50 bucks on fish food and am wondering is there anything i could be doing that would keep my discus and oscar tanks happy that dosent cost me an arm and a leg ..??? i would rather be spending my money on getting my dormant 50 gal tank set up and going i.e. filter heater gravel than having to always fork out the big bucks on food .... what could i feed discus instead of blood worms is the main questions i mean come on 11 bucks for some stupid worms wtf???

you can get them to eat flake and other worms, culture your own worms..

Tetra color bits, Frozen brine shrimp, Frozen mosquito larvae, Beef heart/veggie/vitamin mix, raw shrimp, bananas, zucchini-feeding frozen bloodworms only will cause vitamin deficiencies in your fish.

I'm afraid I must respectfully disagree here, in my case at least. My discus will never even touch flake or pellet food. The only foods they will eat are frozen or freeze-dried, so I just give them all frozen foods. They like bloodworms (of course  ), brine shrimp enriched with spirulina, mysis (as an occasional treat); and San Francisco Bay Brand "Cichlid Delight" (turkey heart and other nasties), and "Emerald Entree" (many veggies with meaty nasties). I have no doubt that mine would eat worms that I cultured, but I guess that is too gross for me, lol! If I could stomach it, I would raise my own food, but there's just no way!

I think the most important thing is to feed your discus a variety of foods, even if they are picky like mine. :)
