I was out of town for a week for the holiday season and when I came back I found 4 of my Cichlids missing. I had instructed my dad to feed them around 15 mini pellets once a day as I had total of 12 juveniles. The water parameter looked fine. Yesterday I did a water change and this morning one more died :( I have been feeding them once a day, is it possible that they are dieing due to under feeding? I am confused as to what might have gone wrong. I've had them for two months now and never had any problems.

they certainly wouldn't die from 'underfeeding' in a week. i suspect, that your dad did something significantly different from your normal routine ... unless he's willing to tell you what that might be, there's little point in guessing. do a water change and go back to what you were doing before you left.

Sorry for your loss. I agree, they didn't die from underfeeding.
Have you tested your water lately? That's where I would start. Are you positive that the tank is cycled? Or, if the tank is cycled, is it possible that your dad overfed to the point of causing NH3/NO2 spikes? Is there any way a contaminant could have gotten into your tank? Maybe there was something sprayed around the tank, or did you or your dad have something on your hands that could have gotten in there?

Sorry, I forgot to mention one thing and this might be it. I have a Rena XP3 which has been running for 2 month and I also have a Penguin 350 which has been running for over a year. The Penguin was unplugged when I came back and the air pump was plugged in instead by mistake. I thought the Rena would have taken care of the 55gal aquarium in case if the penguin was out. Is it possible that this might have been the cause? The water parameter were good.

If that were the case, wouldn't you see an ammonia/nitrite or nitrate spike?

It's very odd, sorry about your trouble.

That's what I am confused about. It seems to be a mystery, we need a pet detective :)

Yes, these are all juveniles they are around 1.5" to 2" and I've had them for around 2 months.

maybe the deaths came from aggression , useually haps dont get along with zebras, which fish died? it's useually better to seperate them, also i find haps and peacocks are a little more sensitve to water parameters. Hope all goes well, good luck

I haven't seen any aggression. The only thing that I have observed is that the Zebras chase one another once in a while. Is it possible that the aggression occurs at night when the light are out. The only ones left now is

2 red zebras,
2 Cynotilapia afra "Chimate"
3 Protomelas taeniolatus & 1 Altolamprologus compressiceps "Yellow"
