Hi. I purchased a 4 inch tall angelfish 2 days ago. During the first feeding, he nibbled on a few bits of food, but now he goes no where near the food. What can be wrong?

What size tank are you housing them in, what are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate), any sign of disease?

Hi,

When I got new angels, they did the same thing. I think sometimes there just picky at the begginning. But what are you water params?

hes in a 29g. I ran tests on amonia, nitrite, and pH. Everythings fine. He doesnt seem to have a disease. Is it possible he is just stressed on the new environment and he will begin eating within the next few days?

Angels can be sensitive as the op stated.. It is possible, but wouldnt make much sense if he was eating before. Do you know what the difference in PH and KH your tank water is from the source tank water?

Not eating is usually the first sign something isnt right. I would venture to say it culd be stress from the move, hes coming down with something, he may not like what you are feeding him, he may not be hungry. How are the others acting, are they all in the 29 g?

My thoughts if they are all in the 29 g turn to a spike in water parameters. Adding 4 large fish at the same time throws a lot of bioload in a tank that even an established tank takes a few days to accomadate. What are your readings?

but i only have 1 angel

LOL, my bad..read it as you haveing 4 angels..:o

I would still check my water paramters..post the numbers here. Even one 4 inch angel is a lot..

I just did a water test. Everything is at 0 ppm and my pH is around 7. I added two baby boesmani rainbows at the same time as the angel. The rainbows are quick eaters, but there is always some food available to the angel. Last time i had an angel, he was a little pig.

Hmm..everything at zero.. How long has the tank been set up, you should have some nitrates..

Are you using test strips or liquid test kit?

i have no nitrites this tank has been set up for about 2 months. If I am correct, nitrates are a smaller incrament of nitrite...
