I wanted to see about adding a little clean up crew to my newly stocked 20 Gal. Long. Was thinking about a few shrimp (probably just your basic ghost shrimp). Does anyone have any experience with shrimp and Rams? Will the Rams tear them to pieces? Also, would the shrimp be a threat to my juvenile platy? She is about a half inch big.

Thanks!

I haven't had Rams but I did have a great colony of ghost shrimp in my tank that dissapeared rather quickly when I added my cichlids to the tank.

My (Bolivian) rams seem to leave my ghosties alone. I haven't had any shrimp deaths since I put the rams in.

I doubt the rams will pose any threat to the shrimp.

If the shrimp aren't really small and they don't look like they'll fit in the rams mouth then they should be fine. My ram doesn't bother my glass shrimp at all, the ram is full grown and the shrimp are about 3/4 inch.

The shrimp won't both your platy, they're pretty much just scavengers.

I'll have to agree with the others here, especially if you have GBRs. I doubt if even Bolivian rams would bother shrimp, but of couse GBRs are even smaller and, as such, have smaller mouths.

For the record, I kept Bolivian rams with Amano shrimp for a couple of years with no issues. Go for it.

Hi,

I see that you already decided to try it, but I thought that I'd throw out my two cents anyway. I have cherry shrimp, which are even smaller than ghost shrimp in with my my GBRs and they don't bother them at all. I also have a bamboo shrimp.

Agree with WhitneyGail except that very young shrimp may become prey for the rams. Thankfully they reproduce quickly :)

Thanks again, I do have German Blue Rams. This is good news, because I didn't really want cories in there to distract from the Ram's attention!
