I have a mated pair of Kribs. Their tank needed cleaning, also the poor female's tail was getting chewed up by the male. So on Monday I took out all the plants and pots and ran them under hot water and scrubbed to get all the yick off. (no soap involved) I moved the female to another safer tank, it's the grow out tank for her kids. They're getting on fine now. Anyway... I forgot about the decorations and left them out overnight. Stuck them back in the tank the next morning. I did not remove a rock that I had a pot propped on, or 3 puny fake plants.

It's Wed night now and I look at the tank and there's a cloud of Krib fry hanging around Daddy! WHAT THE HECK?!?!?! I gave that tank a CLEANING!! Big time!! Didn't touch that rock though, but I did a major gravel vac. I have teeny baby Mystery snails in there so I filtered the water with a net and put them back in the tank. Think I had Fry in it too?? Or did the female deposit eggs on the side of the rock I didn't move (it's really smooth sided).

Seriously confused here!!

during your water change you probably added water that was slightly cooler than the tank water. congratulations, you created a rainy season and your fish took it as a signal to breed. it only takes a day or two for the eggs to hatch.

The breeding thing they've done many times before. The odd thing was that the female was out of the tank when I did the water change and cleaning. I'm guessing the wigglers were already in there somewhere or the eggs were plastered to the rock that I didn't move.

Well anyway, I have some baby brine shrimp 'cooking' for them, so it's all good I guess. I supposed nature finds a way huh? lol

ooh, i see now. . . . do they mouthbrood? maybe dad picked up all the kids when he saw you coming and was holding on to them until he felt it was safe again?

No, not that I've ever hear they don't. I have seen Dad suck one up and spit it out by the rest of the brood when one got to brave. It's kind of cute.

I have babiy things coming out my... you get the idea. lol More Mystery snails than I could possibly count. Looking at the last hatch of them on Christmas I see that I have some Burgandy babies, and some light Lavendar ones too!! YAY!! Those are rare and I can sell them for good $$.

They don't mouthbrood. Maybe the eggs were laid on the side of the cave or they were hidden somewhere when you were cleaning the ornaments by the female (or maybe even the male)

Congratulations on the frys.
