sounds kinda odd but i been curious on this for a long time every picture of angel fish i see the dorsal fin is like erect all the time but both of mine aren't? is this really good or bad?
as seen in picture below
angel1.jpeg

trying to make sure nothing is really wrong and sorry for the bad pic(camera phone) lol

one other quick question i cant seem to find on the net either imma guess one of them the pelvic fin is quite a bit bigger and a long blue streak on it and one doesnt which one is the male and female?

One of my angels is like that, except his top and bottom fin are both kind of kinked over backwards. I don't know why, someone brought him into the pet store and the lady gave him to me for free.

probably a fin defect.

happens fairly often..sometimes these are culled by breeders..but if they aren't they are sold or given away. they are not retained by the breeder as this is considered a bad defect(gene)
the fish in all probability will live a healthy fairly normal life..but chances are if it spawns ths defect will follow.

I agree, genetic defect. I can't remember where i read this (aquarticles.com maybe) but I was told that Angel fish breeders routinely seperate their spawns into four catagories. A=(keep for themselves as breeders) B=(trade to other breeders) C=(sell online or as a business) and Finally D=(sell to pet stores). I would guess that the vast majority of pet store angel fish are culls from breeders, or at least from the lower end of the quality spectrum. Sad but true. If you want good angels buy directly from a breeder.

I also agree that this will not have any deleterious effect on the fish or shorten it's lifespan in any way. It's just not considered a desirable tait.

very true..I have seen the 'A' class by some breeders as AA being considered prime breeding stock..
mooman is correct..what you normally see in the store is either c or d.

ahh thanks for the reply guys....wish i knew where they came from my mom picked um up.. with them moving alot lately they asked if i could care for the fish (basically give them to me) and i said yes...funny enough i had 3 up til not to long ago and they all were like that(3rd one had some growth on his mouth lip fibrosis stuff i think and he didnt make it)....even the second one i have in there is just like that also. :spam:
