 I recently made the mistake of adding new fish to my well-established 90 gal tank -- dwarf gouramis, albino tiger barbs and two young yoyo loaches. As the gouramis showed signs of internal parasites (stringy poop), I treated the entire tank for internal and external parasites. My gouramis (dwarf) still weren't looking good, so I moved them to my quarantine tanks with my corys. My corys are in the quarantine tank as my loaches liked their fins too much for my liking. Anyhow, I have lost several fish over the last couple of days in my 90 gal - 1 rosy barb, 1 tiger barb, 1 twig catfish, 1 yoyo loach, 4 albino tiger barbs...
On Sunday, my fish were all hiding in one corner with no other obvious signs of illness. The ones that died, did so well after the parasite treatment. The ones that died were a bit bloated. The rosy barb (female) looked like her belly exploded (gaping hole). My water parameters were/are fine. As it was the holiday weekend, I began treatment with Melafix and Pimafix as it was obvious to me that something was wrong with my fish. When I came back 15 min or so later, the fish were up at the top of the tank - so I performed an emergency water change. I lost the twig catfish and albino tiger barbs during this evolution. The yoyo loach (young) was found dead this evening.   His whole body seemed a bit bloated, but no other signs of illness.
I have never had a problem using Melafix and Pimafix prior to this and am wondering if anybody else has had problems using them? My remaining fish are starting to act normal again, however, my clown loaches are hiding out in their castle. Only two came out to eat blood worms tonight.
What to do? Treat the remaining fish for internal bacterial infection or leave them alone? Any suggested medications for scaleless fish? I'm at my wit's ends...
TIA,
Daphne
