Is there such a thing. I made a quick stop by my lfs last night and was told that that was what a certain fish was. The guy was kinda on the dumb side so I thought I would ask here. Could this be a dyed fish?

That's exactly it. Geez, I get so tired of people at stores giving false info.
Thanks.

I'd be careful about buying "blue convicts". they could be true HRP's but more likely they're a hybrid of HRP and normal convicts. many farms started crossing them because when HRP's breed they don't have nearly as large a spawn as convicts. usually even fully grown HRP's spawn will be somewhere around 150 or so whereas regular cons can have much, much larger spawns so the 2 were crossed to come up with a fish with similar colors to a HRP (though usually the colors of a real HRP are much better than a blue con hybrid) that would reproduce at a much faster rate.
some lfs and websites refer to Cryptoheros nanoluteus as yellow cons because they are a close cousin to the convict so they have similar body shape and a similar appearance except that their entire body is a beautiful yellow color.

I have seen some really nice younger cons that had blue hues to them. Im pretty sure they were not hybred as they were from a reputable dealer. Could be just a selling point to call them that if they look healthy.

there are a couple of locale variants of normal cons that have a blue hue to them. Jeff Rapps has been offering some blue morph convicts from the Rio Mongo in Honduras I believe that were quite blue. so, if you know exactly where the fish came from and trust that breeder/supplier then they may not be hybrids. however, generally speaking if you see something in an lfs labelled as a "blue convict" then there's no telling exactly what they are...especially if they came from Florida. :)

If it is a honduran red point then they will have red fins and tails.
blue cons r fine if u can find one u are lucky :D it is just like a genetical disorder that sometimes they get...like albino fish :D it's kinda rare too....my girl convict has blue on her top and bottom fins but is not all blue...:)
i had a large male blue convict a while ago i though they were normal fish cons.
