hi im a newwwb at aquariums and i need some help on deciding wich fish to get
i have a 20 gal. tank wich of these puffers is the best for newbbies the dwarf puffer or the green spotted puffer??

I have to be honest, I had two dwarf puffers in a 10 gallon and they were the most boring fish ever. :( I ended up taking them back to the fish store.

I know people love them. But to me, from where I usually sit, they just looked like bits of debris floating up and down the tank! lol

dwarf puffers

can i add some ghost or bamboo shrimp in the tank with them and can i add crabs??

tank mates

thanks for the advice guys im getting the dwarf puffers

ohh another question do bumblebee gobbies make good tank mates for DP'S
or what else can i try??:help:

hey,

I have a 10 gallon tank with 3 dwarf puffers. they are small but real cute and have characters for sure.

I have 2 Otocinclus (small algae) with my puffers, they take no notice of the oto's at all. The oto's clean so effieciently its amazing. they love brown algae so if you can grow that, thats a plus.

Dwarf puffers have been known to nip at other fishes fins. Seems like a possible risk.

I also had Ghost Shrimp with them for a while. note the "a while". eventually my puffers ate my ghost shrimp, but at least it was a heathly meal for them. They didn't bother the shrimps for 2 months. so I still get ghost shrimp when I can and let them roam the tank and clean up after the puffers. If the puffers decide to eat them, its not a big loss of money (shrimps are like 30cents where I live) and at least the puffers get a good meal.

here is a good site to alot of info about dwarf puffers. I used this site for info when I got mine and it's been smooth sailing. Good luck!

p.s. my puffers only eat live blackworms, they are picky. just thought you may want to know. my fiance loves worms in the fridge. haha.

puffers can swim pretty fast themselves when they want to or they are spooked.

I would think fish with longers fins would present the most problems. If they are fast it may not be a big problem, I don't know because I never put anything other then Oto's with them.

Also, I think dwarf puffer aggression depends on the size of the tank which you house them in. They are so small they'd virtually dissappear in a tank over 20 gallons. haha.
