I am in the process of putting together a 75 gallon tank that will showcase one or two Severums. Unsure what else I will add to the tank-any suggestions at all appreciated. My decor so far will be an incredible piece of mayalasian driftwood I am presently soaking and lace rock for caves. WOuld like to add a few artificial plants but I am unsure what to add, any suggestions??

Can I Hijack this thread for a quick Q on those plants?
Can they live in sand?

They can, but they some won't flourish because the sand can compact the roots. Root feeders such as amazon swords would be hard pressed for nutrients. But you can solve that problems with root tabs place next to the plants roots. Besides that anubius, hornwort, java fern, etc. could work. Look for plants that do not need a rich substrate.

Definitely stick with artificial plants--my young sev plays tug-o-war with mine. I have them anchored pretty well in the substrate, but his favorite is a "silk" plant with roundish oval large leaves, and has just succeeded in dragging it a foot for maybe the 3rd time in 4 months. I love watching him tussle with it--he'll go at it for 20 minutes at a time--great exercise!!! Same with tall cabomba (plastic). As far as SA specific plants, I'd check the plant section, or plantgeeks.com or somesuch.

you can also do a search on SA biotopes. btw..I don't believe anubias is a plant indigenous to South America.
cylon are you looking for biotope if not the anubias and java fern do well and are not planted in the substrate(atleast the rhizome)

I realy dont know anything about live plants. I have a 55gal with a pair of dempseys that dont seem to be diggers. I thought I would try live plants in that tank. I hear they help keep algi down and help the water in other ways. It may incourage more spawning.

My pair dont seem to bother with the artifical plants at all. They just dig around their flower pot.

I will buy what ever you think will work the best in this case. I'm not getting any advise I can trust at the lfs
