This is my first post here so id like to say hi to everyone.

Ive have kept tropical fish succesfully in the past but had to give the hobby up due to unforseen circumstances but now i have an oportunity to start again (new bigger house etc). Basically ive been offered a 180 litre (39uk gallon (ish) tank and want to start a fowlr tank and was wondering if this would be of a sufficient size for this purpose (is there anybody here that has had success or disaster with this size tank etc).

thanks.

oh! could any body recommend any good books about starting a marine aquariam (went to the local bookstore today and they had nothing on any kind of fish so im going to have to order some online), even if i do get the tank its going to be a few months before i get things going as i want to take my time and get the right things to do it properly.

It depends what your keeping. If you chose fish wich are suited to your tank size then you will be fine. I know for a fact that thier is people who have both sucess and disaster in a tnak that size - wich is the same for every other tank size. The size of the tank won't be the cause of the disaster - what you do to the tank will.

As for books, apparently the conciensus marine aquarist is a good one - I haven't red it though. A LOT of what I know has come from searching the net, often staying up late into the night either searching for info, or reading.

Hey there Leo, and welcome to the forums..

Yes, a 180l tank is great, that is what i started off with..The only thing to remember is that you may think it is big at the moment, but you will realise further down the line...THAT YOU WANT BIGGER!!!!

I think its a good size to be starting off on, get your fingers wet and all that..I have a had a great success with my 46 gal...Its been great to have ( currently building a new setup though...BIGGER!!! )

For a good read, The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert M. Fenner is a great addition to the bookcase for you. You will find a wealth of knowledge in that book..

Hope that helps

Niko
