What are these little white bugs scurrying around my filter and hood? They are tiny, not in the water but on the black plastic therefore easy to see. My tank is an Eclipse. How do I get rid of these things? Mite be infested.
Thanks

Freudian slip, perhaps? (Just teasing, and I do have something good to say, so forgive the teasing, please!)

I think that they're okay, and just amphipods, which are actually pretty beneficial and make good fish food, too.

Mites scurry. Springtails bounce off the water surface. Aphids creep on emerse leaves of floating plants. Amphipods swim sideways and stay in the water.

Many sites describe these critters. Even www.skepticalaquarist.com has some useful links.

These guys are not in the water. I noticed them after some fish food was left on that bar that splits the tank in two below the hood. They were scurrying around the food, but now have seemed to spread throughout the filter and plastic. There is no longer any food for them to eat, as of two weeks, but continue to exist. Do these sound like amphipods?
