I have got a four foot tank that is divided for bettas would it be better to go bare bottom or add gravel??

gravel to help the bacteria anchor and give you more baterial filtration

bare bottom makes it easy to clean. gravel looks nice and does add some to the bacteria load.

so bb wouldn't work? i really like the look of the bb barracks.

it would work.. you just might want o have an alternative bacteria colony to make up for it

Sometime bb tanks start getting algae growth on the glass bottom. You might paint the bottom of the tank black (the outside that is...) in order to minimize this..

most of the bacteria lives in the filter anyway. just add a extra filter which i think most tanks should have anyways.

Throwing in a couple easy to grow plants also helps. Java ferns work well in barracks situations. + Bettas love them to death.
