Do angelfishes normally need to be in 2's?

My marble angel died today which is very sad, and I was thinking of getting my silver zebra angel a mate.

It is only a baby (as was he) and about the size of a 10cent peice (not including fins, thats just body).

Can they live alone or do they need a friend?

I have noticed she hasnt left my 3 guppies side today, swimming and playing with them..

Thanks

Rhiannon

they do best in groups but a group may not fit in your tank size .. which is? moreover, getting more fish after one of yours dies is not a good idea. figure out 'why' your angel died or the next one may die as well. have you checked your water quality?

20gl tank, weekly water changes, water is good.

He died of fin rot sadly, and the water is being treated as we speak.

I was not planning on getting another one until after at least a month of watching that noone else in my tank gets fin rot either.

He was sick for a few days, then overnight he's fin just rotted.

Poor poor little man..:fairy:

Fin rot is usually a water quality issue or a stress issue. How long has your tank been set up and what are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings? What other fish do you have in the tank?
I also hate to tell you, but a 20g long won't work with angels when they grow up..

I highly suggest you do not get another angel for your twenty g tank. Ditto on the previous posts. Angels grow to be large fish, they need the heighth of a tall tank. IMO, I dont think an angel belongs in even a 20 high.

angels can vary in size. generally it is best to get a taller tank.

altums can get very large where scalare are considered a medium sized angel( still with a body of up to 6") leopoldi are generally smaller
I do know that if a death hits a pair of angels(mating) the lone mate withdraws. I had a pair where the female died..the male hid ..I added what I hoped was two females(turned out they were) he paired up with one..I moved the third wheel to a different tank. he is back to spawning. and out and about..tho he attacked his reflection the other day and I thought he killed himself...sheesh.

that said..you need to establish why the other angel died..get a check on the water parameters. before you purchase anymore tanks.

angels would not do so well ina 20long they have tall fins and benefit by a tall tank(they can be kpet in t a 20 tall but I usually recommend a 29 as minimum for a pair.

20 longs are great tanks for rams tho.
