So I have this Con who was born in an aquarium with a red belly, of course eventually his mommy and daddy got picked off by the piranha, although they lasted for about 3 months with old Norbert, also his brothers and sisters as they grew were picked off one by one as well, but not him, for three years this guy has grown and lived side by side with Norbert untouched, I think they were buddies of some sort even though old Norbert brutally murdered and consumed his mommy and daddy and about 100 of his brothers and sisters.

Anyways old Norbert finally died from I guess old age as he showed no signs of disease so I sold my 50 gal and set up my unused 30 gal and put the little guy in all by himself, what can I say he has inspired me the little two inch scrapper has survived an incredible 3 ears with Norbert who during that three year span has had many times where he was pretty hungry between feedings. So my question is what if anything besides more cons can I put in with this solitary con? I'm well aware that cons are extremely agressive and territorial, but I figured that since he is solitary he wouldent be as agressive so I got a cory and he seems to chase the cory around a bit from time to time, but for the most part leaves him alone, what else could I add?

I think its mean and sad that the pirhana(sp?) killed off the others.

JMO.

Well thats nature isnt it. I'm pretty sure the old Norbert had no personal gripe with scrappies momma and daddy or his brothers and sisters, he was just hungry and to a piranha they are food, It was a quick and probably painless death as Norbert was a very mature and large 7" P

as i unhappily read the story of your convict, i was thinking "this is no way to treat fish". you don't seem to understand that maintaining one fish or one hundred fish is a responsibility ... one where you provide the best environment, food, compatible tankmates and quality of life possible. no fish or family of fish should be subjected to a 'norbert' for even a day, let alone years. in my humble opinion, if this is the way you are going to maintain your fishtank, fish as pets are not for you.

well said liv2padl.

I cant stand hearing things like that. Makes me sick.

When I read people feed them gold fish and stuff, that makes me upset too.

Thats what piranha eat... its the food cycle the same way python owners feed their python feeder mice we piranha owners feed our P's feeder fish and other suppliments (although they prefer live food at least Norbert did) you dont understand that Norbert was my pet not the cons they were just free food my buddy didnt want them any more so he gave them to me to feed to Norbert whats wrong with that? Should I have let Norbert go hungry and starve to death? I dont understand the negativity coming from you guys.

the problem, at least for me, is this:
although they lasted for about 3 months with old Norbert
feeding a piranha or any other predator, live "feedere" fish is not the problem, but having them live in virtual terror for 3 months is.

i've had snakes as pets and fed them mice i raised specifically for that purpose. but the mice didn't have to endure the stalking process for more than a few minutes. maybe i'm just too soft. dunno.

The people I know with snakes feed them dead mice.

Maybe Norbert could of eaten dead fish instead, so they wouldnt of been stalked and terrorised.

I am not being negative, I just feel for the poor fishies and any animal that is killed or hunted.

The cons werent being constantly "stalked" I assure you, I guess you guys dont know much about Piranha's when he gets hungry and he makes the choice to strike thats it, he goes for it and its over very quickly, the cons were smart I had many caves for them to hide in, and for most of those three months the cons were unbothered by Norbert he much preffered beefheart and live feeder gold fish to the cons and left them alone to their own business, until one day he decided that was it and it was. there was no stalking or torture involved thats not how Piranhas do things their not jungle cats. As for scrappie for the 3 years he lived with Norbert I only saw Norbert half heartidly chase him away 4 or 5 times mostly they would chill out and leave each other alone.

Come on guys its nature, dont you guys watch the discovery channel? so does anyone have an answer to my question or what?

feeder goldfish are bred for the purpose to be fed to other fish, but the convicts couldve been saved.

my question is that why were the convicts in the tank with the pirannah in the first place? you say you watch the discovery channel, so then you know what happens to woth fish when they are around pirannah, so why did you put them in the same tank.
