Does anyone know much about Gourami's?

I am thinking of purchasing 2 flame gourami's for my 20gl tank.

Do they mix well with guppies and angels? My angel is only small, a 10cent peice.

Do they like to eat guppy fry? Because I have one little baby swimming around, he is about 7mm big (was born NYE) and I dont want him killed.

What are gourami's like in general?

Thanks

i think they are rather agressive iirc....and you dont want barbs or anything that will nip them.

i cant believe that guppy isnt gone yet with that angel, but i guess he is pretty small. u may wanna qt the guppy or get a breeder net thing or something. idk if that angel will get his mouth around it or not, he will probably try. if u did have more thats probably where they went...or a filter.

Red Flame Gourami? I'm assuming you're referring to the variant of the dwarf gourami a.k.a neon gourami that only get a few/several inches long. They're generally peaceful although they can be territorial with others of the same kind. I had two males in a 55gal and one would constantly chase the other to the point I got rid of him. You may have better luck, but most would say get one male and two females, or just stick with one male.
As for the guppy fry...if he can fit in the gourami's mouth, I wouldn't chance it. I'm with Brian about the angel too.

Dwarf Gouramis are very territorial especially with eachother. I highly recommend against getting two males and as for purchasing females, it is very rare that a LFS will carry them. Inevitably the smaller of the two will most likely be harassed to death by the larger. As for fry, both Gouramis and Angels (if not now for the angel, then when he/she gets bigger) will find fry to be a tasty snack. I would remove the guppy if I were you.

I enjoyed my flame Gourami very much, he had a TON of personality and was very beautiful with his red mohawk but after two deaths in my tank caused by territorial stress I had to give him up.

Gourmais can be and often are quite aggressive especially with each other. They can also be very nippy. If I were you I would get the guppy out of there and put him in a quarentine set up until he can hold his own. In time either the angel or the gourmai will consider it a snack.

Ok.

I have been watching my angel, it hasnt gone anywhere near the little tacker. I think my angel is just far to small, it's mouth is very tiny, the fish is only a 10 cent peice big.

Maybe I will skip the gourami's. For such a beautiful looking fish, its amazing how nasty they could be.

Are other gourami's nicer than the flame?

I will move the little bubby today.

Is there a way of telling between the sexes?

i got a pearl gourami and 2 dwarf gouramies in with 5 tiger barbs and the barbs never ever touch them..

but make sure you get a male and a female dwarf/flame gourami as they do sumtimes kinda fight between each other...

I have a pearl gourami, which is considered to be the most peaceful of the gouramis. Mine is definitely queen of the aquarium though. She shares the throne with a similar-sized koi angelfish and everyone seems happy.
