My 6 year old and I have started an aquarium together. We just migrated it from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon.

Stocking is as follows:

Male Betta
Common Plecos (Will figure out what to do with him as he grows)
Inca Snail
African Dwarf Frog
2 Octocinclus Cats
3 White Clouds (Golden)
4 Scissor Tail Rasboro

I am planning on adding some Red Cherry Shrimp. How many do you think I can safely add?

Hi and welcome to AC!

I don't think your betta will eat them (but I'm not 100% sure) and I don't think any of your other fish would eat them. You could probably add about five to your tank.

Good luck!

they are probably going to get eaten by the fish or the ADFs.

a 20 gallon is a little deep for an ADF, so it would be best to move them back into the 10 gallon

The tank is only 12 inches deep. Same as the 10 gallon. I got the 30 inch long version specifically to keep the water depth down.

common plecos is prob overgrown your tank now. they add a lot to the bio load and grow to 26inch long. i would get rid of it now and add a couple ottos.

The Plecos is about 3-4 inches. I doubt my daughter will let me get rid of it. How about housing it alone in the 10G tank? Should I put anything with it?

it will get to big for a 10 gallon and max out the bioload, and you will probably have nitrate, ammoina and nitrite problems, even if it is alone.

What is a good Nitrate eating plant. Maybe I can use that and the 10G for a while.

any plant will do, but that wont solve the problem. you'll need to do very frequent water changes.

if its being fed right they grow big fast. plants would help a little but plecos are also know for tearing up plants. its best to get rid of fish before they cause a problem.
