The title kinda says it. Just want to know what you guys think. gunna make the stand 1/2" too big and trim it with 1/2" oak and then save up and biuld a canopy. let me know what you think, and please leave responses of how tall i should make the stand. and any input that is helpful.

I'd put at least one vertical center brace in, a 36" span with no bracing is not great for supporting a fishtank. Other than that it looks fine, I would make i somewhere between 30-36" tall.

I know its bad karma to give out another site, but go to www.about.com and type in DIY aquarium stands. Full schematics to build several stands and easy. The oak will look nice!

you need to build it out of 2X4 and use 3/4 ply for the top. The way you have it designed it won't hold the wait.

Actually, having a solid top isn't that important unless you're using a acrylic tank. As long as you have level 2x4s around the edges to support the rim of the tank, it would be fine. Again, with one or two additional vertical supports. One thing that you can do that will add a lot of strength is use 3/8" or 1/2" ply to cover the back and sides, this will give it a lot of lateral strength.

My father and I actually made a stand similar a week or two ago.. Heres the pictures. I am going to be using an acrylic tank and that is why I have the top on it, plus the top is waterproof so...

40" L x 20" W 36" Tall

I blurred the left side because my father wrote our names, when we built it and such on the side.

You also can see all of my saltwater stuff I am collecting while the tank is being shipped to me.

i dont know... lotta weight for it to support.. id suggest at least one center brace or 2 offcenter ones to be safe.

thats exactly how my tank stand for my 45 is biult only withouth the oak trim, and its holding find withing a center brace. but ill add one 2marrow just so i can sleep good at night
