I personally love fish! I love to keep them as pets. I love to catch them when I fish @ the lake. And theres noting better than a batch of fried fish with hush puppies, and cole slaw.

In australia, its probably flake/shark served at Maccas - its whats served at our fish n chips stores. It's also very high in mercury - as most of our sydney fish.

Considering the price of cod, I would be surprised at that...I would rather expect basa, whitefish, or some fish-mix in the North American restaurant sandwiches.

For a long time I thought fish did not feel pain. But now that I know they do, I dont think I could ever go fishing.
Thanks to every thing food related needing a label giving all the ingredients with a quick search I found this.

I can't reply to your question concerning McDonalds, but where I work we make the fish burgers for BK. Some years ago cod was used, but now it is Alaskan Pollock.

For a long time I thought fish did not feel pain. But now that I know they do, I dont think I could ever go fishing.Jessu, most biologists associate "pain" as something higher chordates feel, and almost always the pain center in an animal is associated with the cerebral cortex.
Fish don't even have a cerebral cortex. They just process the facts. If they're hooked, they'll pull until they're free (or until I reel them in for dinner). A big brain can be a detriment, since it is just more mass to propel if you're running away from something. Fish have just enough gray matter to survive and prosper. Any more than this is excess.
Enough drift. Hey, I just noticed...BK is doing booming business, and all the stray dogs in my neighborhood disappeared. Man, I knew those burger specials tasted a little gamey
