I have posted a problem with an agressive Mickey Mouse Platy on a couple of occasions. 2 trips to the quarantine tank did nothing to quell his behavior. I had made up my mind he had to GO.
But....I couldn't just send him to a watery grave! Yikes...he and his mate completed the cycle in my 55 gallon tank! They even made babies in there!
I didn't particularly like the 2 fishies. They were cheap (99 cents for both)and convenient for completing my cycle (5 months now). Honestly, I expected them to die from mini-cycle when they went in the tank. Didn't intend that, just a sacrifice for the completion of the cycle. Don't judge me! Every new tank has its sacrificial "lambs"....fish we buy cheap hoping they don't die, but expecting they will.
I didn't intend they should go until the male started extremely agressive behavior, nipping at my dark tailed guppies!
Anyway....thanks to That Pet Place in Lancaster PA, my Mickey Mouse, his common mate and 3 fry now have a new home. 4 other fry were too small and fast for me to catch. They also said they would take the other fry when I can catch them!
The bottom line.....don't kill the "bad" fishies. Someone will have a tank for them. Someone will love them. I have high hopes for the little guys I left in their new, temporary home today. BTW...That Pet Place is an EXCELLENT source for fish and other aquaria related help! Also....they take little guys like these on a donation basis only. Don't expect to get paid for fish you don't want! I didn't, I just didn't want to kill them! They helped me get my tank where it is today! PERFECT! I feel confident the fish I didn't want will be well cared for! Yes, I feel bad! But at least I didn't just flush them! Don't hate me! I did what I think best for the ones I couldn't keep and the ones I want to keep.
