View Full Version : Celestials outdoors?
Has anyone ever tried this? I'm thinking abot giving it a try if I can figure out a way to see them without the water's being too shallow. Cold isn't a problem here, but heat might be. Pond would be celestials only with plenty of plants. I'm thinking everything might be allright with a plant shade over the pond in the summer.

I've not done this either, but it should be doable....

Hi Shay, keep in mind that most if not all goldfish are breed in ponds. Keeping celestials in the pond would not be a problem if they were by themselves. These guys would have difficulty competing for food with more agile goldfish. Water temperatures above 90-95 will pose a problem because of the lack of oxygen in the water. You can aerate the pond a little if those temps creep up that high. With the plants in the water they will help during the day but at night it might hurt them when the temps are high. Good luck.

The problem is those eyes. If you plan on doing this, you will need to take ALL sharp objects out of the water, as protruding eyes won't help matters. Also, you will need to keep them alone or with other "deformed fancies" or else they won't be able to compete for food and will slowly starve to death. (I just saw that that was avoxo's advice, but I'll reinforce it anyway.)
