I shall shortly purchase a Jewel Rio 400 (5 ft H x 20in L c 24in H), having been out of the hobby for 30 years. I am making the stand myself and have taken engineering advice on structure etc., but the following aspects would probably better be considered by someone experienced with tanks.
The tank will be situated in a minimally heated room and to reduce the heating costs I intend to insulate it with fiberglass loft insulation. I am using a 20mm plywood board fixed to a metal frame and I plan to put a 50mm x 50mm wooden framework with two cross supports in the middle. In between the frame work goes the fiberglass. Will there be sufficient support for the tank base on the framework?
I plan to put insulation round the rear and sides and box it in and have a panel for the front to fix on at night. I wish to insulate the top also, so if I made a framework for the insulation and fixed say 50mm long plastic pipes over the vent holes will this be satisfactory and will the top insulation keep the air above the water warm enough to keep Labyrinth fish?
Thanks
